We have many exciting and informative WWWs planned for the Spring.

By water wise on 6/13/2011 10:34 AM

When: June 29 @ 5:30 p.m.
Where: The Dusty Boot in Eagle

Why are all those people - and government agencies - taking water samples from our local rivers and streams?

By water wise on 4/13/2011 11:45 AM

When: Wednesday, April 20th, 5:30 p.m.
Where: The Bearfish Bar and Grill in Vail

Scientists are telling us that something is bugging Gore Creek. But actually, it's what is not bugging the creek that's the problem.

Join ERWC to learn about problems in Gore Creek - signaled by the lack of a robust colony of bugs (macroinvertebrates) starting in the East Vail area. These bugs are food for the creek's fish. Do missing bugs mean missing fish? Do missing bugs mean that the creek is unhealthy?

By water wise on 3/15/2011 10:37 AM

When: Wednesday, March 22, 4:00 PM
Where: Starting at the Minturn Saloon

The US Forest Service and ERWC will be restoring a six mile section of Homestake Creek on the way up to Homestake Reservoir. This special snowshoe WaterWise Wednesday will familiarize you with issues the creek faces, as Matt Grove, Aquatic Biologist with the US Forest Service, guides us on a tour of part of the restoration area. Approximately 100 volunteers from the community will be needed this summer to rehabilitate 43 user created campsites and roads, create in-stream fish habitat, and restore banks for the animals that live there.

By water wise on 2/22/2011 12:00 PM

When: Thursday, Feb. 24, at 6:30 PM
Where: The Route 6 Cafe in Eagle-Vail

How are the clean up efforts at the Eagle Mine Superfund Site progressing? Just ask Dr. John Woodling, trout counter (and weigher and measurer). Through years of research on the fish population from Red Cliff to the Eagle River's junction with Gore Creek's gold medal waters, Dr. Woodling can tell us about the health of the Eagle River by telling us about the health of its fishy inhabitants.

By water wise on 1/20/2011 10:24 AM

Join the Eagle River Watershed Council as Matt Grove of the U.S. Forest Service and Kendall Bakich of the Colorado Department of Wildlife explain their roles in promoting a healthy fish population in the Eagle River Watershed.  Representing both federal and state governments, Matt and Kendall will talk about their complimentary efforts to monitor and preserve our fish habitat and population.

By water wise on 12/16/2010 2:49 PM

Come join us for an in depth look at the Colorado River with slides and narrative by author Jon Waterman.  Jon Waterman kayaked the entire Colorado river in 2008.  Jon will share his firsthand experiences as he virtually takes us along with him on his 1450 mile journey.

By water wise on 10/27/2010 2:38 PM

When: Wednesday, November 17th @ 6:00PM

Where: Crazy Mountain Brewing Company in Edwards behind the Subway

Jonathan Waterman has broken trail with ten unique journey books exploring history, culture, and environment. He is renowned for unprecedented mountaineering ascents, long river descents, and arduous wilderness traverses—such as his 2,200 mile solo of the Northwest Passage (Arctic Crossing, Knopf, 2001). Jon has also written for, appeared in, and created five TV documentaries about his wild journeys. The accolades for his work include 7 book and magazine awards, an Emmy, and a Denali National Park Special Achievement Award for his rescue service on Mt. McKinley.

The Eagle River Watershed Council is excited to add to their monthly educational series, a presentation entitled, “Ghost Towns and Mines” being given this coming Saturday morning at 10 AM at The Sylvan Lake State Park Visitor’s Center in Eagle. Ashley Fransen, an intern to the Eagle River Watershed Council through VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) and a student at Colorado State University, spent most of the summer in the field. She studied acid mine drainage and the impact that the abandoned mines and ghost towns in Eagle County have on our watershed.
